Fight for Palestine
100% Zakat policy

Give your Zakat where it is needed most

Zakat is a duty owed to the poor — and few people on earth today embody Zakat eligibility more clearly than displaced families in Gaza. Learn how Zakat works, calculate what you owe, and give it in full confidence that every penny reaches eligible recipients.

Understanding Zakat

The essentials, clearly explained

A brief grounding in what Zakat is, who owes it and how the threshold works. For rulings on your personal situation, consult a qualified scholar.

Zakat basics

What Zakat is

Zakat is the third pillar of Islam: an obligatory annual payment of 2.5% on qualifying wealth, due from every eligible Muslim. It purifies wealth and binds the fortunate to those in need — not as charity from surplus, but as the rightful share of the poor.

Who must pay

Zakat is due from every adult Muslim whose zakatable wealth — cash, gold and silver, investments and business assets, minus immediate debts — has remained at or above the nisab threshold for one full lunar year.

Nisab, in brief

Nisab is the minimum wealth at which Zakat becomes due. It is defined by the value of either 87.48g of gold or 612.36g of silver; many scholars advise using the (lower) silver value so more of the needy benefit. Because metal prices move daily, check the current value when you calculate.

Where it must go

The Quran names eight categories of eligible recipients, foremost among them the poor and the needy. Families in Gaza displaced from their homes and livelihoods are among the clearest examples of Zakat eligibility in the world today.

Our promise

A 100% Zakat policy, reviewed by scholars

Zakat policy

When you give Zakat through Fight for Palestine, the full amount — one hundred percent — is spent directly on eligible recipients: the poor and needy among the families we serve in Gaza, the West Bank and refugee communities. No administration, fundraising or processing costs are taken from Zakat funds; those costs are covered by other income.

Zakat donations are ring-fenced from the moment they arrive, tracked separately through our accounts, and distributed through programmes serving clearly eligible recipients — emergency food, water, medical care, shelter and support for orphans and widowed mothers.

Our Zakat handling and distribution policy is reviewed by our Zakat and Shariah advisor to ensure compliance with Islamic charitable principles. The full written policy will be published on our Transparency page.

Questions

Zakat, answered

Common questions about giving Zakat through Fight for Palestine.

Zakat frequently asked questions
Is my donation Zakat-eligible?
Campaigns marked "Zakat-eligible" are operated under a 100% Zakat policy: every penny of your Zakat goes to directly supporting eligible recipients — the poor and needy among the families we serve — with administrative costs covered by other funds. Our Zakat policy is reviewed by qualified scholars.
What is the difference between Zakat and Sadaqah?
Zakat is the obligatory annual almsgiving required of eligible Muslims, calculated on qualifying wealth, and must reach specific categories of recipients. Sadaqah is voluntary charity of any amount, given at any time. We accept both, and clearly mark which campaigns are Zakat-eligible.

Fulfil your obligation. Change a family's year.

Your Zakat is a right owed to the poor — and in Gaza, it arrives as food, water, medicine and shelter within days.
