Malaysian NGOs Helping Gaza: MERCY Malaysia, MAPIM, HALUAN, GPM and Others
Who MERCY Malaysia, MAPIM, HALUAN, Global Peace Mission and Muslim Care Malaysia are, what they say they do in Gaza, the AAKRP government fund, and how to check any Palestine fund.
In this article
Several Malaysian NGOs send aid to Gaza. Among the best known are MERCY Malaysia, a medical relief society founded in 1999; MAPIM, a coalition of Islamic organisations; HALUAN, an education and welfare NGO founded in 1989; Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia, formed in 2001; and Muslim Care Malaysia. The government also runs its own fund, the Palestinian humanitarian trust account (AAKRP) at Wisma Putra.
This guide gives a short, factual entry for each, taken from the organisation's own website or from reputable news reports, so you can tell them apart and find their official channels. It is not a ranking, it is not a complete list, and we are not affiliated with any of them. After the entries there is a checklist you can apply to any Palestine fund in Malaysia, including us. For the same checks in Bahasa Melayu, see our page on derma Palestin yang sah.
MERCY Malaysia
MERCY Malaysia began in 1999 as the Malaysian Medical Relief Society, set up by the obstetrician Dr Jemilah Mahmood and a few friends in response to the conflict in Kosovo. Its website describes it as an international non-profit focused on medical relief, health-related development and risk reduction, committed to the principles of humanity, impartiality, independence and neutrality. It is registered under the Societies Act 1966 (PPM-020-14-16091999) and is based at Bangunan MCOBA, Jalan Syed Putra, Kuala Lumpur.
MERCY Malaysia has sent medical teams to Gaza. In September 2025 its president, Datuk Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus, said it was preparing its sixth and seventh teams, that it runs small-scale farming programmes in Gaza led by local staff, and that it works with the United Nations and other NGOs to reach areas its own team cannot. Its website, mercy.org.my, has a Gaza emergency response page and regular press releases on Gaza.
MAPIM
MAPIM is the Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia, or Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisation. Its website describes it as a coalition of Islamic NGOs in Malaysia: the group came together in 2006 and was registered as an NGO on 29 October 2012. Its presidential office is in Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam.
For Gaza, MAPIM's best-known project is Malaysia Wakaf City Gaza, which its website describes as an 87-acre development with apartments, a mosque and educational facilities, initiated in 2019. MAPIM also takes part in the flotilla campaigns to break the siege of Gaza. People searching for "tabung Gaza MAPIM" will find that the address tabunggaza.com forwards to MAPIM's own donation form. Its websites are mapim.org.my and mapim.org.
HALUAN
HALUAN, the Pertubuhan Himpunan Lepasan Institusi Pendidikan Malaysia, was established in 1989 and is registered as PPM-001-10-26091989, with its corporate office in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor. Its website describes programmes in outreach, education and welfare, and says it is a UNHCR implementing partner for refugee aid and education in Malaysia.
On Palestine, HALUAN says it has helped set up a Quran and Sunnah academy in Gaza, runs a Palestine Community Educare Centre in Lebanon, and joined the Ops Ihsan coordination with other NGOs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In September 2026 it reported sending six trailers of wheat, 4,800 sacks in all, from Egypt towards the Rafah crossing, carried out on behalf of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), Yayasan Wakaf Malaysia and a retail company. Its Gaza appeals are on haluan.org.my.
Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia
Global Peace Mission Malaysia was formed on 26 September 2001 to respond to the emergency in Afghanistan, and sent its first aid mission there the following month. Its website says it is a trust incorporated under the Trustees (Incorporation) Act 1952, based in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur, and that it has provided emergency and humanitarian aid in nearly 30 countries. It lists Palestine among the places where it runs Qurban, Iftar and winter aid.
In November 2024 GPM's chief executive, Syahrir Azfar Saleh, said a civil defence truck the organisation operated in Gaza, donated by Malaysians, had been destroyed in an Israeli attack, and that GPM would continue its work there. Its website is gpm.com.my.
Muslim Care Malaysia
Muslim Care Malaysia (MCM) is a humanitarian NGO with an office in Batu Caves, Selangor. In June 2024 Bernama reported that MCM managed 100 tents at the Sumoud Camp near Khan Younis, sheltering about 1,000 displaced people, and that its contributions there included solar power systems and daily meals, run by its team in Gaza.
We could not find an official MCM website to point you to, so if you want to give to MCM, get its account details directly from the organisation and check that the account name matches.
The government fund: AAKRP
If you search for "derma Palestin kerajaan Malaysia", this is what you are looking for. The Akaun Amanah Kemanusiaan Rakyat Palestin (AAKRP) was set up in 2002 under the Financial Procedure Act 1957 and is run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It collects donations from Malaysians and channels them to Palestinians. The ministry's own page states that donations to AAKRP can be claimed as an income tax deduction under section 44(6) of the Income Tax Act 1967, and gives the official account and donation form.
Broadcasters run their own funds too, such as Media Prima's Tabung Kemanusiaan Palestin. Account numbers for funds like these have changed over the years, so take them only from the fund's official page.
How to check any Palestine fund in Malaysia
The same checks work for a large NGO, a mosque collection or a social media campaign.
- Find the organisation's full name and registration number, not just a campaign name. Societies register with the Registrar of Societies (ROS); charitable companies with the Companies Commission (SSM).
- Before you scan a DuitNow QR code or transfer money, read the recipient name your banking app shows. It should be the organisation, not a person.
- Check the account number or phone number on the police Semak Mule portal, which shows whether it has been reported in a fraud case.
- Take payment details from the organisation's own website or official accounts, never from a forwarded WhatsApp or Telegram message.
- Read what the organisation reports: where it works, through whom, and what it delivered, with dates. Audited accounts are a good sign.
- If an NGO collects Zakat, ask whether it has been appointed as an amil by your state religious council. In Malaysia, Zakat is administered by the states, and only Zakat paid to the state religious authority counts for the zakat rebate.
- Ignore pressure. A genuine fund will still be there tomorrow and will answer your questions.
Where Fight for Palestine fits
Fight for Palestine is a small, independent organisation. We fund emergency aid in Gaza through local partner teams: food parcels and hot meals, clean water, medical aid, and shelter and winter items. We accept crypto only, through a one-time address per gift on our donate page, and partners are checked before funds move.
Hold us to the same checklist. We do not publish a charity registration in Malaysia, we do not claim LHDN approval, and we are not a zakat amil, so we do not ask Malaysian donors for Zakat. Our page for donors in Malaysia and the Malay page Sedekah untuk Gaza set out what that means. If you are new to crypto, our guide to buying USDT in Malaysia walks through it, and how to donate to Gaza safely has the fuller checklist. If one of the organisations above suits you better, give there. What matters is that help reaches families in Gaza.

It depends on the recipient. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that donations to AAKRP qualify under section 44(6) of the Income Tax Act 1967. For any NGO, ask whether it holds LHDN approval and ask for a receipt. Gifts to Fight for Palestine are not tax-deductible.
