Gaza Charities in India: Who Indians Can Donate To
Few Indian charities run Gaza programmes. What MSF India, the ICRC, UNICEF India and the Palestinian embassy offer, and how to check a Gaza appeal.
In this article
If you live in India and want to give to Gaza, the honest answer is that very few Indian-registered charities publish a Gaza programme you can fund in rupees. The clearest exception we found is Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), which has an office in New Delhi that takes donations in rupees with an 80G receipt and runs medical work in Gaza, although it pools donations rather than promising that each one goes to Gaza.
This guide gives a short, factual entry for each organisation people in India ask about, taken from the organisation's own website or a named news source. It is not a ranking, we do not rate anyone, and we are not affiliated with any of them. After the entries there is a short checklist you can use on any appeal, including ours.
Why so few Indian charities fund Gaza
It is mostly a question of Indian tax law. Under section 11(1)(c) of the Income-tax Act, 1961, a charity's income spent on activities outside India is not exempt from tax unless the Central Board of Direct Taxes has approved it, and that approval is limited to work promoting international welfare in which India is interested. Most Indian charities are set up to work inside India, so they have no route to spend donations in Gaza.
That is why searches like "best charity to donate to Palestine from India" turn up so few Indian names. The organisations below are either Indian offices of international agencies or channels that people often mistake for one.
MSF India (Médecins Sans Frontières)
MSF, also known as Doctors Without Borders, is an international medical humanitarian organisation. Its history page says it set up an office in India in 1999, and in 2006 MSF India established a trust called Medecins Sans Frontieres Holland India. Its office is in New Delhi.
MSF's website says it has worked in Palestine since 1988, providing medical and psychological care to people affected by the conflict in the West Bank and Gaza, including treatment for burns and trauma.
On donations, MSF India's FAQ says gifts qualify for 50 percent tax exemption under section 80G, and that you receive a tax receipt. It accepts cheques, cards, internet banking and demand drafts. It also says donations can be earmarked for a particular country or programme only in certain circumstances, and it encourages unrestricted gifts so it can send money where it is most needed. If a Gaza earmark matters to you, ask MSF India before you give. Its websites are msfindia.in and msfsouthasia.org.
The ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross)
The ICRC has been present in India since 1982. Its New Delhi delegation works in India, Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives, mainly with local partners such as the Indian Red Cross Society.
In Gaza, an ICRC statement of 6 October 2026 says it has been addressing needs such as clean water, shelter and food, and that its Red Cross Field Hospital has provided more than 52,400 consultations. We did not find a Gaza appeal run by the New Delhi delegation in rupees; the ICRC takes donations through its international website, icrc.org.
UNICEF India: money raised in India stays in India
UNICEF works in Gaza, so people sometimes give to UNICEF India expecting it to reach Gaza. UNICEF India's own page is clear that it does not: all money raised in India stays in India to support UNICEF's work there.
The same page says donations to UNICEF are not currently eligible for 80G tax benefits, because UNICEF is a UN agency and not a charity registered in India. Giving to UNICEF India is a good way to help children in India; it is not a route to Gaza.
The Palestinian embassy and the Indian government
People also search for a donation account at the Embassy of the State of Palestine in New Delhi. We could not find one published by the embassy. If you want to give through it, contact the embassy directly, and treat any "embassy" UPI ID or QR code shared on social media with caution.
The Government of India has sent aid of its own. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, reported by The Tribune in December 2025, the government said India had sent four tranches of medicines and medical supplies totalling 81.5 tonnes between October 2023 and November 2024, around 135 tonnes of humanitarian assistance in all, and had contributed $12.5 million to UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestine refugees. That is government aid; there is no public donation channel attached to it.
Gaza appeals on WhatsApp, Instagram and UPI
Many appeals in India arrive as a forwarded message with a photo, a QR code and a UPI ID. Some are genuine; some are not. In September 2025, The Week reported that Uttar Pradesh's Anti-Terrorism Squad had arrested three men in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, accused of running fraudulent crowdfunding campaigns on social media in Gaza's name and collecting the money in their own UPI IDs and bank accounts.
A UPI ID or QR code tells you whose account the money goes to, not what happens to it next. Before you scan one, find out who that person or organisation is.
How to check any Gaza appeal before you give
The same few checks work for a large agency and a small one, and none takes long.
- Find the organisation's website yourself and give through it, not through a link or QR code in a forwarded message.
- Check who receives the money. A personal UPI ID or a private bank account is a reason to stop and ask questions.
- Look for a registration you can verify, in India or in the country where the organisation is based, and read what it says it does in Gaza: where, through whom, and what it delivered last year.
- If an 80G receipt matters to you, ask for the organisation's 80G details before you pay, and remember that an 80G charity may not be able to spend your gift outside India.
- Search the organisation's name with words like complaint, fraud or arrest.
- Be wary of pressure. A genuine charity will still be there tomorrow and will answer your questions.
Where Fight for Palestine fits
Fight for Palestine is a small organisation by comparison with the agencies above. We fund emergency aid in Gaza through local partner teams: food parcels and hot meals, clean water, medical aid, shelter and winter items. We do not take UPI, cards or bank transfers. Donations are made in crypto (Bitcoin, Ethereum or USDT) to a one-time address from our donate page, and we have no 80G approval, so there is no Indian tax relief on a gift to us.
Hold us to the same checklist. Our page for donors in India answers the common questions, including UPI and rupees, and there is an Urdu version that covers Zakat in tola and rupees. Our guide on how to donate to Gaza safely goes through the checks in more detail, and our Zakat page explains how Zakat gifts are handled. If one of the organisations above is the right fit for you, give there. What matters is that help reaches families in Gaza.
Frequently asked questions
Which Indian charity can I donate to for Gaza?
Very few Indian-registered charities publish a Gaza programme, because Indian tax law limits charities spending outside India. MSF India in New Delhi accepts rupee donations with an 80G receipt and MSF works in Gaza, but it pools donations and earmarks them only in certain circumstances.
Does a donation to UNICEF India go to Gaza?
No. UNICEF India says all money raised in India stays in India to support its work there. Donations to UNICEF India are also not currently eligible for 80G.
Can I donate through the Palestinian embassy in New Delhi?
We could not find a donation account published by the embassy. Contact the embassy directly if you want to give through it, and be cautious with any embassy UPI ID or QR code shared on social media.
Can I get 80G tax relief on a donation for Gaza?
Only if you give to an organisation with 80G approval, such as MSF India, which offers 50 percent. Ask the organisation whether it can spend your gift in Gaza. Fight for Palestine has no 80G approval.
How do I know a Gaza QR code or UPI appeal is genuine?
Find out whose account the UPI ID belongs to, check that the organisation is registered and explains how money reaches Gaza, and give through its own website. In 2025, police in India arrested people accused of collecting Gaza donations into their own UPI IDs.
