How to Help Gaza from Nigeria: The Organisations We Could Verify

Few Nigerian organisations publicly run aid in Gaza. Here is what we could verify: the NSCIA appeal, Prosper Global (formerly Mercy Corps), the ICRC, and how to check any appeal before you give.

If you live in Nigeria and want to help Gaza, the honest starting point is that very few Nigerian organisations publicly run aid programmes inside Gaza. The clearest national appeal came from the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), which in November 2023 asked Nigerians to send donations for Palestinians through the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Abuja. International agencies with offices in Nigeria, such as Prosper Global (formerly Mercy Corps) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), also work in Gaza.

This guide gives a short, factual entry for each, taken from the organisation's own website or a reputable report, so you can find the right channel. It is not a ranking, we do not rate anyone, and we are not affiliated with any of them. After the entries there is a checklist you can use on any appeal, including ours.

Why this list is short

We looked for Nigerian organisations that describe their own Gaza programmes on their own websites: where they work, through whom and what they deliver. We found very few. Much of the giving for Palestine in Nigeria happens through mosque collections, Ramadan appeals and informal groups on WhatsApp and social media. Some of that is genuine and some is not, and from the outside it is hard to tell which.

Nigeria's large Zakat bodies, meanwhile, mostly serve people in need at home. That is a real choice every donor faces, and both are good uses of charity. If you are unsure where your Zakat should go, ask your scholar or mosque.

The NSCIA appeal and the Palestinian Embassy in Abuja

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs is the umbrella body for Muslims in Nigeria, with the Sultan of Sokoto as its President-General. In a release dated 28 November 2023 and signed by its Secretary-General, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, the Council acknowledged that individuals and groups in Nigeria were collecting donations for the people of Palestine. It said it was better to channel all assistance towards a reliable destination, and asked that monetary gifts go to the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Abuja.

The release lists a naira account and a US dollar domiciliary account in the embassy's name at First Bank, and an address on Diplomatic Drive in the Central Business District, Abuja, for gifts in kind. Account details can change, so confirm them with the embassy or with NSCIA directly before you send anything, and never pay into an account that is not in the embassy's own name. The release is on nscia.com.ng.

Prosper Global, formerly Mercy Corps

Mercy Corps is now called Prosper Global. Its website says it is the same organisation with a new name, and that some country offices will keep using the Mercy Corps name while they complete local legal requirements, so you may see both names for a while.

In Nigeria, the organisation says it has worked since 2012, mostly in the north-east, on emergency assistance, clean water, farming and peacebuilding. In Gaza and the West Bank it says it has worked since 1986. Its Gaza page describes distributing food and hygiene kits with local partners where it is safe to do so, giving families electronic cash to buy what is available, and, since June 2025, trucking clean water to households in Deir al-Balah with the local partner Palestine Environmental Friends. Its website is prosperglobal.org.

The ICRC and the Red Cross Movement

The International Committee of the Red Cross has a community contact centre in Asokoro, Abuja, and works mainly with people affected by conflict in north-east Nigeria. Its Nigeria page says it also supports the emergency response of the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

In Gaza, the ICRC says it helps provide medical care, essential household items, food and clean water, supports people separated from their families, and works closely with the Palestine Red Crescent Society. Its pages also describe a Red Cross field hospital in Rafah and a limb-fitting centre. The ICRC is neutral and works with people on all sides of a conflict. Its website is icrc.org.

Zakat foundations in Nigeria

People in Nigeria often search for a Zakat foundation. The best-known private one is the Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation (ZSF) in Lagos, which, according to reports in The Guardian Nigeria, distributes Zakat to people in need across Nigerian states for economic empowerment, medical care and education. Some northern states, including Kano and Sokoto, also have state Zakat commissions. These bodies, as their published work describes it, focus on Nigeria rather than Gaza.

If you want to work out how much Zakat you owe in naira before deciding where to give it, our guide to Zakat in naira explains the nisab and the calculation step by step. The same guide is available in Hausa on our page Zakka da sadaka ga Falasdinu.

Giving in crypto from Nigeria

USDT is widely used in Nigeria, and it is a simple way to send a gift abroad without a domiciliary account. Whoever you give to, the same rules apply: copy the address from the organisation's own website, choose the network it lists, send a small test first for a large gift, and keep the transaction ID.

If you buy USDT through a P2P market, stay inside the platform's own escrow and never pay or release outside it. Our guides on how to buy USDT, how to send USDT on TRC-20 and donating crypto to Gaza cover each step. Rules on crypto and on sending money abroad differ from country to country, so check what applies to you.

How to check any Gaza appeal before you give

The same few checks work for a national body, an international agency or a small group. None of them takes long.

  • Find the appeal on the organisation's own website or official account, not only in a forwarded WhatsApp message or flyer.
  • Check that the bank account or wallet belongs to the organisation. A personal account name on a charity appeal is a warning sign.
  • For a Nigerian group, ask for its Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration as an incorporated trustee and check it.
  • Read what the organisation says it does in Gaza, in specifics: where, through which partners, and what it delivered.
  • Be wary of pressure, countdowns and promises of reward. A genuine appeal will still be there tomorrow and will answer your questions.
  • For crypto, never send to an address someone gives you in a private message. Copy it from the official website yourself.

Where Fight for Palestine fits

Fight for Palestine is a small, independent organisation. We fund emergency aid in Gaza through local partner teams: food parcels and hot meals, clean water, medical aid, shelter and winter items, and education and child support. We accept donations in crypto only, through a one-time address for each gift. We are not connected to NSCIA, the Palestinian Embassy, any Zakat commission or any of the organisations above.

Hold us to the same checklist. Our guide on how to donate to Gaza safely goes through the checks in more detail, our page for donating to Gaza from Nigeria covers naira, USDT and Zakat questions, and our Zakat page explains how Zakat gifts are handled. If one of the channels above suits you better, give there. What matters is that help reaches families in Gaza.

How do I donate to Palestine through the embassy in Abuja?

The NSCIA release of 28 November 2023 lists a naira account and a US dollar domiciliary account in the embassy's name at First Bank, and an Abuja address for gifts in kind. Confirm the details with the embassy or NSCIA before sending.

Is Mercy Corps still working in Gaza?

Find it on the organisation's own website, check the account is in the organisation's name, ask for its CAC registration, and be wary of pressure or appeals that arrive only as forwarded messages.
