In this article
Eid al-Fitr 2018 fell on Friday, June 15, and Eid al-Adha 2018 on Tuesday, August 21, in Saudi Arabia and the countries that follow its announcement. Eid al-Fitr 2019 was on Tuesday, June 4, and Eid al-Adha 2019 on Sunday, August 11.
This page lists both Eids for every year from 2018 to 2030. Past dates are the ones announced by Saudi Arabia's Supreme Court after the crescent moon was looked for; some countries celebrated a day later, as explained below. Dates after 2026 are calculated and should be read as expected, subject to moon sighting.
Eid al-Fitr 2018 and Eid al-Adha 2018
In 2018 the Islamic year was 1439 AH. The Saudi Supreme Court announced on the evening of June 14 that the Shawwal crescent had been sighted, which made Friday, June 15, 2018 the day of Eid al-Fitr. Most Arab countries celebrated on the same day.
For Eid al-Adha, the court announced that Sunday, August 12 was the first day of Dhul Hijjah. That put the Day of Arafah on Monday, August 20, and Eid al-Adha on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. The United Arab Emirates announced the same date.
Pakistan, which relies on its own moon-sighting committee, observed both a day later that year: Eid al-Fitr on Saturday, June 16, and Eid al-Adha on Wednesday, August 22.
Eid al-Fitr 2019 and Eid al-Adha 2019
In 2019 (1440 AH), the Saudi Supreme Court announced that the Shawwal crescent had been seen on the evening of Monday, June 3, so Eid al-Fitr was on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. The UAE, Kuwait, Qatar and other Gulf states celebrated the same day. Several other countries, including Pakistan, began Eid on Wednesday, June 5.
The court later announced that Friday, August 2 was the first day of Dhul Hijjah, which made Saturday, August 10 the Day of Arafah and Sunday, August 11, 2019 the day of Eid al-Adha. Pakistan observed Eid al-Adha on Monday, August 12.

Future dates cannot be confirmed in advance, because each month begins only when the new crescent is seen or the previous month completes 30 days. The dates below come from the AlAdhan Hijri calendar converter, which uses a calculated Saudi-based calendar. Treat each one as expected, subject to moon sighting; the confirmed day may be one day later, and your local mosque or national authority has the final word.

Why countries sometimes celebrate Eid on different days
There is no single worldwide announcement. Saudi Arabia's Supreme Court rules on testimony from people who have seen the crescent. Pakistan, India, Morocco and others rely on their own sighting committees, and the crescent is often not yet visible there on the evening it is reported in Arabia. Some bodies, such as the Fiqh Council of North America, use astronomical calculation instead.
The result is usually a gap of one day, and it changes from year to year. In 2025, for example, Saudi Arabia marked Eid al-Adha on June 6 and Pakistan on June 7, while in 2026 both observed it on May 27. Our guide to Eid around the world explains how each country decides.
Why Eid moves about 10 or 11 days earlier each year
The Islamic calendar is purely lunar. It has twelve months of 29 or 30 days, each beginning with a new crescent, which adds up to 354 or 355 days. The Gregorian calendar follows the sun and has 365 or 366 days. Because nothing is added to the Islamic year to make up the difference, every Islamic date arrives about 10 or 11 days earlier on the Gregorian calendar than it did the year before.
You can see it in the list above: Eid al-Fitr was in mid-June in 2018, late May in 2020, April in 2023 and March in 2026, and it is expected in February by 2028. Over roughly 33 years, both Eids travel through every season and return to where they started.
The gap between the two Eids stays the same. Eid al-Fitr is on 1 Shawwal, the tenth month, and Eid al-Adha is on 10 Dhul Hijjah, the twelfth, so Eid al-Adha always comes a little over two months later. For what each festival marks, see Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr vs Eid al-Adha.
Eid giving for families in Gaza
Whatever the date, both Eids come with an instruction to share: Zakat al-Fitr before the first, and the meat of the sacrifice at the second. In Gaza, most families spent both Eids of 2026 displaced from their homes, and UN News reported in late May 2026 that nearly the entire population remained displaced as Eid al-Adha began.
Fight for Palestine funds food parcels and hot meals, clean water, medical aid and shelter items in Gaza through local partner teams. You can give through our food assistance campaign, read how we handle Zakat, or donate to where the need is greatest.
